BACKGROUND
The American Heritage Futurity was created by D&H Cattle Co, prior to the conception of the American Bucking Bull Inc. Bucking bull breeders from across the United States would nominate their bull calves for this event. The catch? They would have to nominate their calves while they were still on the cow, before they were ever bucked for the first time. The purpose was to truly showcase the breeding programs of who knew what cows worked and what sires produced buckers.
The very first American Heritage Futurity competition took place in Ardmore, Oklahoma 2005. Dr Hou (Homestead Genetics) was the champion. ABBI adopted the program and kept the same model, with a twist. Calves must now be nominated by March 15th of their yearling year. This does allow breeders to get them bucked a few times but they still rely heavily on their genetic crosses being they wont have but two-three trips by that time. From the time they are nominated to the time they will compete is about 14 months.
Recently, the American Heritage competition was moved from Duncan, Oklahoma to Fort Worth, Texas during the time of the PBR Unleash The Beast World Finals to showcase the next generation of animal athletes all the while previous American Heritage competitors will be bucking under the bright lights of Dickies Arena.
The American Heritage is a bucket list event that every breeder wants to win, second only to being crowned Futurity World Champion. Nearly $50,000 will be awarded to the American Heritage Champion, and their name will be etched in the history books.
